Fabric Fast Facts

Most of us know the advantages to wearing cottons and silks, but did you know that newer materials like bamboo also offer extra benefits like being anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic.

We’ve highlighted below some helpful information about the materials we love to work with, and why.

Modal: made from the pulp from Beech trees, it has a luxurious and smooth feeling, almost like a second skin – perfect for sleepwear.

Cotton: delicate and fluffy in its natural form, it can be spun into yarn or thread and then used to make a soft, breathable textile.

Viscose: Sustainable and as good for your skin as it is for the planet. It is this affinity to water that makes viscose so good at absorbing water. It also makes the fabric highly breathable, which is essential for comfort. Breathable fabrics remove water vapour (and heat) from your skin, leaving you feeling cool, dry and comfortable

Bamboo: this fabric is anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic, anti-fungal and eco-friendly, plus gorgeously soft to wear.

Cotton Sateen: made from cotton fibres woven in a satin weave, meaning multiple threads of the same direction dominate either surface. Sateen is sheeny, drapey, smooth and more delicate than regular cotton.

Polyester: exceptionally durable and resistant to stretching, wrinkling and abrasions (yay, no ironing required). The fibres used to create Polyester are extraordinarily strong, yet lightweight, which means as a fabric it retains its shape very well, plus it’s super easy to look after.
